Inspired by Dan Atherton’s riding in the Dyfi, the A.170 is super-playful and designed to excel on the steeps. This hard-hitting,big-mountain enduro bike has a mixed-wheel configuration, DW6 suspension platform with 170mm of rear travel and a straight-through seat-tube all of which combine to create an awesome all-rounder that is a big hitter in the bike park and a beast out on the trails.

The Atherton A.170 is truly unique, with its top-tier spec, it’s trimmed uncompromisingly for downhill performance!
Mike Hunger, Enduro Mag
My only complaint then, was having to give the AM170 back before my Alps summer holiday. Because, for riding DH tracks, Morzine steeps and a blend of natural enduro trails, I struggle to think of any other bike I’d rather ride than this rounded package that rides lighter than the scales suggest and looks unique to boot.
Mick Kirkman, MBR
Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned trail veteran, the Atherton is a tremendous riding companion in all sorts of situations, from flowing trails to tough enduro stages and even gnarly downhill tracks.
Mike Hunger, Enduro Mag
Atherton A.170 is your choice for the most desirable mountain bike of 2023... Is it the dream of being as fast as one of the Atherton siblings, or the hand built in the UK titanium and carbon combination that turns your head? Maybe it was Gee Atherton’s insane Dolomites edit? Whatever it is, it all comes together to the Atherton Enduro.170 being the bike you desire the most.

FEATURES
PERFECT FIT
We believe that a perfect fit can transform your ride so we offer more sizes than our competitors, from 410mm reach to 530mm as well as custom sizing options.
DW6 KINEMATIC
Dave Weagle’s DW6 linkage and a custom-tuned shock provide outstanding small bump sensitivity, optimal ride height and a progressive kinematic.
NO THREADS, NO PROBLEM
The only threaded part on our bikes is the BB; for the rest, barrel nuts and standard fasteners mean you'll never have to hunt a custom part again.
STRAIGHT THROUGH SEAT POST
With a mullet set-up, we’ve moved to a straight-through seat tube so you can keep the seat low for the descent but still get maximum pop for the climbs.
CUSTOM CARBON TUBING
Our carbon tubing is custom-built for us to achieve the perfect balance of stiffness and compliance – meaning that your Atherton Bike will track the trail like no other.
PORT-TO-PORT CABLE ROUTING
This approach offers a clean and sleek aesthetic, eradicates rattle and makes maintenance as easy as for an externally routed system.
Across our Enduro range we offer a choice of standard builds with the option of coil or air shock. Our builds can focus either on well-priced components chosen for rugged reliability or “the best that you can get” so there’s something for everyone! But there’s no pressure to settle for our favourites, use our standard builds as a springboard for your line-by-line specification.
The A170 is mixed/mullet wheels only. We believe that this bike performs best as a mullet so that’s what we offer. There is no provision for a 29 rear wheel. Have a look at the A150 if that’s your thing!
Can I use a dual crown fork on the A170?
Sure you can! There may be some changes to standard geometry caused by the longer fork, drop us a line on sales@athertonbikes.com to discuss.
How well does the A170 climb?
With its steep seat angle and a supportive DW6 platform for wildly efficient pedaling the A170 climbs far better than you might expect! Perfectly ready for big days in the mountains.
Does the A170 work better with coil or air shocks?
For most A170 riders we recommend a coil shock for the best performance, but air shocks work really well too, as with all of our A series builds we respect that you’llhave your own styles and preferences and will do all we can to advise according to your typical terrain and riding style.
What is the seat post insertion on the A170?
With its straight seattubeit’s possible to run very long dropper posts on the A170. Even on the smallest frames long posts can be inserted fully.Of course the most suitable size for you might be smaller or larger depending on your measurements. We can spec anything from 125 to 240mm!
Should I use a 170mm or 180mm travel fork?
Againit’s down to your personal preferences, where you usually ride and the part of your ride that youprioritise. The differences are quite small – a 170mm fork gives a slightly better position for climbing, 180mm gives the best possible performance for the way back down! A 180 fork will also slightly reduce bike’s reach (around 5mm).
