S.170 OUR BIG MOUNTAIN ENDURO BIKE IN ALUMINIUM

Our aluminium frames are hand built in the UK and optimised for strength.

A small hit on weight compared to our carbon and titanium frames is balanced by even greater impact durability and lower cost. The new S-range will be made entirely from Aluminium 7075 with CNC-manufactured lugs. Aluminium grade 7075 has superior ultimate and fatigue strength to other grades of aluminium but it can’t be welded so it isn’t typically used in bike manufacture – because we bond all the frames we can choose 7075 – a huge deal for us as we see far too many warranties over at Dyfi Bike park.

Lug and tube construction means that we can continue to offer a huge range of sizing, bringing to bear 15 years of race team experience on how to fit improves performance and rider confidence. The S range uses all our learnings to date on geometry and the DW suspension platform combined with four years of race proof and feedback from 100s of our customers riding in some of the world’s toughest locations.

WHICH ONE'S FOR YOU?

S.170.1

Our flagship S Range build, features a Rockshox Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate, Rockshox Zeb Ultimate and a mixed Sram drivetrain with X01 upgrades where performance advantage is highest.

S.170.2

Build 2 is built around the Fox Performance suspension range and the super–rugged Sram GX drivetrain. We’ve chosen an air shock for weight-saving and ultimate levels of adjustability.

S.170.3

Our most accessible S-range build, features a Rockshox Deluxe Coil Select, Rockshox Domain R fork and a mixed SRAM drivetrain, NX with GX upgrades on the shifter and derailleur.

S.170 FRAME

Our S170 frame-only option comes with a Rockshox Super Deluxe Coil Ultimate. The race team's favourite shock combines with DW4 linkage to satisfy the most demanding racers and bike park shredders.

You’re probably starting to get the picture. The S170 is no budget aluminium look-a-like offering like some other brands. They’ve applied the same excellent engineering skill to a different material and delivered what might just be one of the finest aluminium mountain bike there has ever been.

The S.170 still has the same ‘trucking on’ speedy ride and balanced geometry (as the A.170) to keep the rider calm, but you can really feel what’s going on underneath at the wheels. (Mick agrees with Dan Atherton that the key difference is in the small bump absorption - once deeper into the travel, it’s hard to tell the pair apart.) It holds good pace across the ground and never feels like a heavy old dog pedalling, riding dynamically or when climbing. It should also be super strong with those solid 7000-series tubes.

Beast of a bike, I’ve given it a good thrashing riding it like a dh bike doing dh laps all day and have had no issues. Have also been flipping and spinning it and it goes well, pretty stoked to spend more time on one of these rigs in the future. It climbs real well too because of the rider position on the bike with the steep seat tube, deffo a sick all rounder do it all bike.

The S.170 is such a capable bike, it feels like you can charge like a Downhill bike but it also pedals extremely well thanks to its steep seat tube and DW4 linkage. It’s tough as well; after 3 months of riding daily with all the rain and the dust that New Zealand could throw at it, I’m still running the same bearings and haven’t had to touch a linkage bolt.

We like simplicity and our design process is guided by engineering principles, this means the way our bikes look directly relates to how they will be strongest and perform best.  We use the most cutting-edge technologies to make sure that your Atherton bike will be perfect for you and your riding…we’ve always dreamed that our bikes would be more accessible to more riders and our new aluminium range achieves just that.

PERFECT FIT

A perfect fit can transform both your confidence and performance for an amazing ride experience. We offer 12 sizes from 405mm reach to 515mm,, more than double any of our competitors.

STRAIGHT THROUGH SEAT POST

As in the award-winning A170, we’ve used a mixed wheel configuration and straight-through seat tube so you can slam that dropper, keeping the seat low for the descent and then getting maximum pop for the climbs.

DW4 KINEMATIC

DW4 linkage and a custom-tuned shock provide outstanding small bump sensitivity, optimal ride height and progressive kinematics. Less adjustability for custom sizing but easier to maintain than DW6.

LIFETIME WARRANTY

We use an Infinite-life approach to design ensuring that peak stresses are always below the fatigue run-out strength. This means no fatigue over time and that we can be 100% confident in offering a lifetime warranty.

NO THREADS, NO PROBLEM

There is nothing as annoying as a stripped thread so the only threaded parts on Atherton Bikes S Range are the Bottom Bracket (BB) and the protective covers. You'll never have to hunt a custom part again!

Our geometry is designed by World Champions and tested at Dyfi Bike Park, Mid Wales to ensure the best ever bike-handling, maximum fun and minimum maintenance for all riding styles.
