Launch
Atherton Bikes launch new and improved A.130 build specs … including new SRAM Options.
03 April 2025
Our A.130 is the benchmark for short-travel descending; perfect-fit delivers easier climbing, transforming confidence and riding progression.
In common with the rest of the A-series, our A.130 offers 22 standard sizes for perfect fit matched with lightweight strength, enormous versatility and a lifetime guarantee including Bike Park usage. It’s CEO Dan Brown’s chosen home bike and Rach's pick for exploring Dyfi’s backcountry trails… inevitably ending up with a bike park descent!
The A130’s perfect blend of performance for trail-focused riding makes it a firm favourite with our growing base of less gravity-focused customers, many of whom report posting PBs straight out of the box. We offer a selection of recommended builds that customers can buy through their website or use as a springboard to customise their dream builds.
Brand new build specs 1-3 are based around Fox Factory, Ohlins or Rockshox options to mirror the A.170 product range while a standard frameset comes with Fox Factory Float X. All standard builds now include the option for 140mm or 150mm forks.

Custom Builds
Customised specs commonly feature brands such as EXT suspension, Burgtec finishing kits, or mix-and-match groupsets. The A.130 is compatible with both Sram T-Type and the new Sram 70.
The A.130 is a big hit with some of our most discerning customers. BBC cameraman Martin Souter has been riding the Peak District’s rough and rocky trails twice a week for over 30 years. He took delivery of his A.130 custom buiId in Dec 23 choosing Size 10 (470 regular) with Rockshox ultimate deluxe 130mm/ lyric 150mm, Hope Tech4/E4 200/180. Shimano XT drive train, DT Swiss xm481 rims on Hope Pro 5 hubs, Continental Kryptotal, Brand X descend dropper, Renthal bars/stem and a Burgtec oval front ring.
Martyn said “The quality shines through. Because the bike fits so well, it really is an inspiring ride straight out of the box. I have felt quicker and more confident on some of the trickier stuff we do. I’ve been looking for more features to pop off!”

Andy Prior rides both Surrey Hills trails and Dyfi Bike Park. Andy chose Fox Factory suspension with 150mm upfront. (standard build 1) He said of his first ride at Dyfi “The A.130 never missed a beat. I never once felt it was out of its depth. It loves steep rocky descents, it loves speed, it loves corners and kept me on it when both tyres were sliding in the grease, oh and side note it’s super quiet too, no cable rattle, love that!"

But it’s also a big hit with the reviewers...
Mike Kazimer of Pinkbike wrote “It’s the kind of bike you can hop on, pedal off into the woods, and whatever trail you end up on it'll probably deliver a good time. The overall handling on technical climbs is pleasantly neutral and the amount of traction was impressive. The A.130 strikes a great balance of being active and efficient, a blend of traits that can be hard to achieve. On the descents, the A.130’s well-damped suspension feel and fairly neutral geometry, mean it remains composed on a wide variety of terrain. On the mellower, more rolling trails it's supportive enough to generate speed by pumping through rollers, and on the steeper, chunkier stuff it feels surefooted; it's not so slack that it feels dull or sluggish on flatter sections of trail, but it's long enough to feel stable and controlled at higher speeds.” - Read the Full Review here
Luke Marshall of MBUK says that the A.130 is his new benchmark for short-travel trail bikes. “The Atherton 130 is a thrill seekers trail bike that hits harder than its stats on paper suggests. It’s versatile, and comes with meticulous handmade craftsmanship and head-turning looks… The DW6 platform offers an incredible balance between sensitivity and support, turning the 130mm travel Atherton 130.1 into a potent trail rocket. While its short travel might hint at a climbing preference, that's not its biggest forte. The AM.130.1 is a solid climber, happily zipping around the mountainside with a notable absence of demoralising bob while seated pedalling. But on the descents, it truly shines … Its small deals with rumble strip trail chatter efficiently. It irons out those small speed-sapping trail imperfections and high-frequency bumps with the soothing touch of a longer travel bike. Yet, it remains light-footed and eager to respond to any rider input." - Read the full Review here
