Episode 3: A.200.G Gates Belt Bike: Talking Mid-Pivot with Dave Weagle

In this month’s episode Head Designer Rob Gow and world-renowned suspension guru Dave Weagle chat pivot heights while Charlie takes on Fox-testing at Dyfi Bike Park with 2nd year Junior George Madley and our Atherton Academy development team shredders!

The A.200.G was designed around a mid-pivot suspension architecture because of the performance benefits it brings. The design is more involved because the addition of an idler but it brings enough performance improvements for us to invest our efforts in this new project and Charlie and the team are loving the results!! The race team were very happy with the A.200.M (Charlie’s World Champs winning ride) so we had to have very solid grounds to make such a big change.

 

With World Cup racing being as tight and competitive as it is we are always looking to squeeze every last ounce of performance from our bikes, and this development gives us another edge. Head Designer Rob Gow explained “Adding the idler allows us to create the mid-pivot system, essentially decoupling the BB from the suspension system. This is very important as it gives us the flexibility to put the pivot in the optimum position for overall suspension performance. The kinematic is still a DW6 but taken to the next level through this new design freedom".

Suspension guru Dave Weagle always says that from a performance point of view the DW6 system we already have throughout the range is great, it’s not only the cake but the icing on the cake, the mid-pivot system is the cherry on top of that cake!”

In the Bike Park Charlie and the boys worked with Fox and Head raceteam technician Ben Lovell to find the tune that suits the bike best. The new 2026 shock is more tunable, with more linear ride characteristics and solved a few issues for us …George felt like he was “super-glued” to the track! Speeds are already picking up and the countdown to World Cups is ON!
