Atherton Bikes Story
World Champion riders work with industry-leading engineers, product, and suspension designers, all of whom put their hearts and souls into a range of perfectly fitted bikes.
To say this brand has been a lifetime in the making is no exaggeration, Dan built his first bike in 1992 when he was just 10 years old. As youngsters coming through the ranks of BMX and downhill and later as professional racers, Dan, Gee, and Rachel dreamt of pushing bike development as hard as they pushed their riding. Our lead engineers and designers spent their days at the forefront of F1 and aerospace technology and their evenings and weekends shredding or filling notebooks and beer mats with ideas that would change the game.
Over 15 years ago, the Athertons started their own race team with Dan Brown as the 4th director. Their objective was to push the boundaries of mountain biking on the track and through unique events and groundbreaking edits. It’s always been about doing things their way, doing things better than ever before. Dan Brown now takes the helm at Atherton Bikes; he brings his experience of 15 years of unparalleled success on the World Cup circuit and ensures that the drive for innovation and progression stays right to the fore of the new company.
Both riders and engineers have built their careers around excellence so a partnership with world-renowned suspension designer Dave Weagle was a natural step. On the business side, Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Piers Linney helps us to drive the company forward and provides the expertise to allow us to achieve our global ambitions.
We’re putting our hearts and souls into creating and growing our bike company, designing a range of bikes with the same attention to detail we apply to winning a World Cup Series or to designing components for Airbus.
Atherton Bikes utilises revolutionary additive manufacturing technologies combined with bespoke carbon fibre tubing to create our ultimate range of bikes.
We started with what we know best, focusing on high-level products designed to be ridden aggressively. In our first race season on board the bikes, we took three World Cup wins. But not everybody is a racer; our dream is to see kids, all-mountain explorers, bike park shredders, racers and e-bikers enjoying our bikes.
“We want to create the perfect bikes for every rider, from kids shredding their local woods to World Cup racers.” - Rachel Atherton
Whatever your skill-level or preferred riding style we believe that a high quality, correctly fitted bike that delivers a stable and composed ride is key to an awesome riding experience and to your progression as a rider.
Our first customers all feel the same way – “I feel more confident and I ride faster” and “You ride better on this bike.” The riders who’ve bought our first Atherton Bikes share our aspirations for constant improvement, for being the very best they can be. They’ve become part of our extended family, we hope you'll join us.

At European Championships in Champery this weekend Andreas Kolb found an incredible three-second gap against the rest of the field. After a scorching run, including an insane second split Andi crossed the line 2.98 seconds up.
We take our lifetime guarantee VERY seriously and we are well-known as the most uncompromising set of perfectionists you’re ever going to meet! So it goes without saying that the testing for our prototype bikes would be absolutely brutal for both man and machine!
